Welcome to Live To Eat!

So, I’m throwing myself out there.  It’s scary, but exciting.  People may love it or hate it, but I’m really proud of this project.  I’ve learned so much through this process, and I have so much more to learn.  Elizabeth, my beautiful wife, I love you, and this is a new beginning for us that is so much deeper than the show.  Everyone who’s been involved in this crazy project (Phil, Susan, Shane, Matt, Aaron, Josh, Luke, and the rest of you know who you are), I love you all, and I’m excited for what is to come!  I’m ready for this roller coaster ride, because I trust who’s driving.  This is a family operation, and we’re looking forward to hearing from all of you.  I want this blog to be a way to share and connect over our love for food.  Enjoy!

Next episode is coming this week. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it, we’ve worked very hard and to know that “Live to Eat” is being seen in Dickinson, TX is amazing!

  2. Barbara Caddock Says:

Hi Darlins’! I watched the first episode and loved it. What a unique approach. I love the whole idea of food centered around family and friends. That was always the way it was in our family when I was growing up. Even if you have to have liver and onions for dinner because that’s all that’s left in the food budget for the week, eating it with those you love makes it taste better. I am so proud of you both and can’t wait for Italian! I have forwarded this to everyone I know. Love, Aunt Barbie

  3. nathaneats Says:

Hi Aunt Barbie! Thank you for your support. We love you and are excited to see what happens with this project:-) We will keep you updated with everything new that were doing. See you soon.

  5. Hey guys! I can see everything except the video on my phone, so I’ll have to wait until I’m home for the Main Course, so to speak.

Also, if you could randomly throw a Magnum or Blue Steel in the middle of a souffle demo, we’d all be very thanful.

ps: I remember crying when you wanted to come to Alex and my joint birthday party because I was afraid you’d eat all our cake…now make us proud, Chubs!

Anyway, I had the privilege of teaching Christine’s two beautiful daughters, Maleah and Breanne, and I remember the girls telling me about you then. It’s what binds us together and makes us a community no matter where we come from or where we are going. I found your impressive site by pure chance. It’s great to see your dream is becoming reality. That Fettuccine recipe looks interesting. Some of my families are Asians, so I love anything spicy especially Thai and Indian food.

  59. Cristi-Navy wife Says:

What great recipes! I can’t wait to try a couple out on my hubby when he comes home in the spring! Could you all do me a HUGE favor? Post some “non-spicy” recipes? (or alternative spices for the hot ones?) When hubby gets home we plan on having another child and I can NOT do spicy when I’m pregnant!
    Thank you!

    • nathaneats Says:

      Cristi,

Glad to hear you liked the show and recipes. I will be posting more recipes very soon that aren’t spicy, also if you want to omit the spices that are to much for you they can be replaced with your favorite spices or just removed alltogether.

      nathan

  60. Hi Nathan & Elizabeth –

Leiha and Karen Moning pointed me in the direction of your video and I am thrilled. I too am a food lover and truly enjoyed the video. Your down-to-earth approach, passion and embracing the family/friend element is a wonderful touch. Plus (and it’s a big plus), your cooking style is straightforward. I’m loving it.

I can’t wait to try the tenderloin and salsa. My husband will lose his mind when he tries it.

Looking forward to the next episode.

    Deb

  61. Hi !! Leiha clued me in to your show and I really enjoyed it! I agree with Christy-Navy-wife, and I’d enjoy some non-spicy recipes as well. Why hasn’t food network picked this show up?!?!

    Thanks!

  62. Rhiannon Rippke Says:

I don’t know you in real life like most the people on this site seem to, but I got your link from Karen Monings newsletter and it looks great. Cooked up the pork tenderloin last night and it was a HUGE sucess with my family and friends. Can’t wait to try the Spicy Shrimp dish. Keep it coming. I have forwarded this to all my friends.

    Rhiannon

  63. Hello Nathan and Elizabeth,

This is such an exciting venture, I am so happy that you have decided to go ahead with this project. Not sure I have any recipes worth exchanging but cant wait to see more of the recipes you are all sharing.
Love the video Nathan, very nicely done.
The idea of having family and friends gives the idea a nice touch.
With your permission Nathan I would love to put a link to your blog on my website.
    Best of luck always,
    Respectfully,
    Yvonne

  64. Hey, Nathan!

I also found your link from Karen Marie Moning’s website/newsletter. I just wanted to let you know that I enjoyed your first episode and my hubby and I plan on trying out a couple of your recipes. He watches cooking shows every chance he gets. We tag-team. He usually does the actual cooking, and I do more of the preparation part. We both liked that your cooking segment was quick, simple, and to the point. I also thought it was great that your friends had such nice things to say about you and that one of the them is from Alabama (where I live). Roll Tide!!! I’ve sent your link to some of my other family members who enjoy cooking too. Keep the segments/episodes coming! Congratulations on your new show!

  65. Dear Nathan and Elizabeth,
Your 2nd video is as great as the first!!! I love how you include your NYC family, you make it so friendly and it shows what kind of people you are at heart!!!
I’m working out some vegetarian recipies just for you two! I’m writing a special cookbook, I’m about half way done, but this recipe will be just for you – spicy! I’ve never cooked with hot peppers before but I’m including them in this recipe. My daughter Chrissy was laughing at me, probably because I’d do it for you two but have never worked with hot peppers before! I’m developing a taste for them now, so thanks!
    Keep up the excellent work!!!
    Most Sincerely,
    Annie M

  66. Elizabeth Marchini Says:

    Nathan,

Congratulations! I love the show and look forward to the next one as well as trying the recipes. I heard about it from Karen Moning over at her message board. Of course all of us support you. Best wishes for you and your family and with the show.

    Take care,

    Elizabeth

  67. Liz Friess Says:

So Episode 2 brings it all home! Most of my family is in NY and watching this made me miss them so much! The food looked fantastic (in fact, I’ll be making that Caprese tonight!) and what makes the show so much more special is seeing the love you and Elizabeth share. It’s real, it’s genuine and I really like watching the two of you!

Again, looking forward to the next episode!

    Vivo , amore , risata e mangiare!

  68. For some reason I can’t get the second episode to come up??

  69. Ok, I got to watch it. Another FANTASTIC episode. It looked delicious.
Elizabeth, you did a fantastic job with the decorating too.
I am so proud to be an Aunt of such stars 🙂

  70. Kim Allison Says:

Linked to your site from a Karen Marie Moning email, and so glad I did! Watched the cooking video, happened to have a pork tenderloin & half the spices already. Got the rest at the store and cooked your recipe that same day. I really wasn’t expecting much, but it was SO good! It was as good as going out to an expensive restaurant! Gorgeous AND good in the kitchen?! lucky girl…….Kim Allison, Jax, FL

  71. Hello Nathan,

O sole mio sta nfronte a te : ) i love that song. Are you Italian? I am, we rock.

Loved episode two, i will definitely try those recipes as well, keep you posted how i go. I think what i liked best about this episode was when you cook you joke around and have fun, a poor mans facial hahahaha, i absolutely lost it when you said that. Keep smiling that beautiful smile, can’t wail till the next episode.

    Ines : )

  72. Holy smokes Nathan it’s been a long time! All this technology bringing old classmates back together is really something, no?

I hope you enjoy the heck out of NYC, I’ve always wanted to visit and someday I will. Of course I love good food just like any healthy red-blooded American boy and will have to try out some of your concoctions.

Godspeed to you, your wife, and other adopted family members!

  73. Nathan …just gotta tell ya I love your show! It is different from so many of the other cooking shows out there. It feels ‘comfortable’ and ‘inviting’.My 18yr old son saw your 2nd episode and told me I had to go out tonight and get the ingredients so he could make that meal.I did what every good mom does and handed him the keys and said the store is that way. You have created a monster…my kitchen has been stolen. But its all good cause if he can cook then he wont starve when he moves out next school year…right? Gads I hope so…your wife is a very lucky woman! We cant wait for the next episode! I have also been spreading the word or rather your link to all my friends in cyberland…they ask “Nathan who?” and I show them a book cover and they say”OOOOOh,him really? He cooks too?” and always a big “WOW”…Cant wait to see what you have in store next time….Carol

  74. Libby and Nate,
It was fun watching your second show today. I loved the commentary’s by Libby too. (On the phone) I liked the first show a lot but think I even enjoyed the second one more.

I agree with April, a show this summer at their cabin would be fantastic. In fact I think you could do several shows from there. I can see one episode on April and Davids deck with the Columbia river flowing by in the background and hummingbirds dive bombing you while you cook. Then you should do one on their upper 20 with a wood picnic table all laid out in their big empty field with all the layers of beauty in the background. Of course the yellow jackets and mosquitoes would be dive bombing you there. I have some friends who could supply some homemade drum music for the background sounds. And of course one on the beautiful beach.

Maybe some of my edible flowers for salads will be in full bloom and I can make you a salad when you’re there.

I also sent your link to my daughter in law, Anna, who has a deli in Doylestown, PA. She and her husband run Cote’s and Company there. I think she and her husband will enjoy your show. Anna loves to cook too and they are fulfilling their dreams at Cote’s.

Anyway, keep it up. I am enjoying what you are doing and can’t wait to see the meal for 80 people. I am glad it is you not me cooking that one.

It seems you two are gifted with open hearts, good friends and great talent. You are naturals for this endeavor. (Sorry this is so long)

Love ya gobs and God bless,

    Ruthie

  75. …and the hits just keep coming.
I love the laughs and the lessons.
    You Rock!

  76. Todd Erdman Says:

    Nathan:
Your show is great. What really makes this good, is not the production values – which are superlative for the budget you have to be shooting on – but your genuine zest for living.

  77. Aunt Becky & Uncle David Says:

    Hi Kids!

We loved BOTH epidsodes! You may be getting some responses from 8th graders. I showed episode 1 to my classes. It was so fun to see their reactions. Everything was so professtional. The two of you were so poised and well-spoken – and handsome, beautiful and wonderful! Having your friends speak about you as part of the program is brilliant. If it weren’t for the fact that I always talk about my family to my students, I think they might not have believed we we were related. I scrolled through your blog to see if I recognized any names from them. Not yet, but I may show episode 2 to them. I showed it to my book club and some other staff members. I’ll also forward the link to some other friends. It took me some time to contact you because Uncle David took our computer to a boat show for about two weeks. Love you two. So sorry we missed you during the holidays

  78. Damien and Karelia Says:

  83. Great episode, good-looking food. I agree with Debbie, but am I the only one who wishes the episodes go for longer? And wow you have such cool, supportive aunts.

The people you have on the show are great. I especially loved the story of how they got together through paradox, she was sweating for him, that’s so sweet. Me, I just looked into my fiancés beautiful blue eyes, heard his accent and almost fell off my chair. Nice way to start. Keep up the good work, and I must say again, wow you have a beautiful smile.

  84. James Hansen Says:
